The Villar Perosa is an Italian double barrel light machine gun which can also be considered the first submachine gun. It was designed by famous Italian small arms designer Bethel Abiel Revelli as an aircraft weapon. In this role it found no success, as it was designed to fire low-powered 9mm Glisenti ammunition, which was even weaker than dimensionally similar 9 x 19 mm Luger ammunition, at the extremely high rate of fire of 3000 rounds per minute, or 1500 rounds per minute per barrel.
