  • The formation of the Helghan Empire occurred some time after the First Extrasolar War against the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance and United Colonial Nations, but no more than a decade before the second war. Helghast leaders, including Scolar Visari, continue to impose the belief that the Helghast race is superior to humanity, creating not only intense distrust, but also an expanding hatred of UCN, ISA, or any other form of foreign rule. The Helghast think of themselves as a master race, who should be ruling the perceived "lesser" human race. They serve as the primary antagonists of the original Killzone trilogy. As of Killzone: Shadow Fall, their strength is greatly reduced.
  • The Helghan Empire was a monarchic autocratic state in a nearby galaxy known as the Phyyrus galaxy, originating from the planet of Helgha. It was formed by the Helghan people around 17,400 BBY, who ended up taking over the entire Phyyrus galaxy. Upon establishing their state, the Helghans had period of peace lasting several thousand years before preparing to invade the galaxy, similar to the Yuuzhan Vong. The Helghans were aware of the Yuuzhan Vong, having fended off several of their excursions around 4,000 BBY, and they decided to move on. Ruled by the Emperor, the Empire had a large military, and so high ranking officers were respected and had much power. The Helghan Army and Helghan Navy was composed of several billion Helghans.

Ruled by the Emperor, the Empire had a large military, and so high ranking officers were respected and had much power. The Helghan Army and Helghan Navy was composed of several billion Helghans. The Empire began preparing for an invasion of the known galaxy as early as 3,000 BBY, and had begun monitoring it since 1,000 BBY. Helghan spies purposely attracted the Yuuzhan Vong internally to the galaxy, hoping they would attempt an invasion of it and would weaken it's defenses, before coming and invading it themselves. In 300 ABY, the Invasion of the Galaxy had begun, as Helghan troops began assaulting the outer fringes of the Unknown Regions.
