Braunstein was a proto-RPG run by Wesely with Dave Arneson as a player. While designed as a wargame, the players were given the roles of people in the city. Over a succession of four campaigns, Braunstein evolved into the freeform style of game we now know as a role-playing game. Later, Dave Arneson adapted the Braunstein type scenarios to Fantasy wargaming using the Chainmail rules. In collaboration with Gary Gygax, these games became Dungeons & Dragons. bayes
