A chemical compound, known as an ester, that is created as an alcohol and an acid compound react together, forming a triglyceride. A triglyceride is basically another way of referring to fats and oils formed in human tissues, but also existing in various foods rich in carbohydrates (carbs), such as bread, sweets, or rice. As different foods containing fats are consumed, triglycerides are absorbed or created and enter the body's bloodstream in the form of particles known as lipoproteins.

- A triglyceride was a chemical. In 2371, when asked if he could replicate the isogenic enzyme that a young Jem'Hadar was suffering withdrawal from, Doctor Julian Bashir reported that while he'd had some success with triglycerides, they were only a temporary measure and not a cure. (DS9: "The Abandoned")
- Triglyceride (more properly known as triacylglycerol, TAG or triacylglyceride) is a glyceride in which the glycerol is esterified with three fatty acids. It is the main constituent of vegetable oil and animal fats.
