| - Today, the Grey Elves are a scattered people with a forgotten culture. Nothing remains of their once great citadels and thriving communities. Some of the few remaining Grey Elves still remember the days of their civilization's end. It happened several hundred years ago. Due to internal strife and famine on both sides, old racial conflicts between the dwarves and elves managed to resurface, destroying an era of peace. It came to skirmishes, then an exhausting war that weakened both sides severely. After years of conflict, they finally realized that fact, and the conflict was ended before it would drag both the nations into oblivion. But the settlement came too late. The elves were not able to recover before they were attacked from another side; Frost Giants left their halls high in the mountains and marched through the elven lands, pillaging, destroying and killing. A last stand between the two armies became legendary, but the Grey Elven civilization could not be saved. The survivors scattered and roamed the lands in groups of few. Eventually, some were to find a new home in the new human settlements of Frostkeep and Bloodfall. The culture and all the records of it’s rich history were lost. Some words on Grey Elf culture might be necessary. Grey Elf culture was significantly more martial than that of their kinsmen from the Tearwood Forest. Every highborn Grey Elf, male or female, received battle training at adolescent age and the vast majority ended up holding a position in the military. For elves without great status, the army was also a place where honor could be gained. Grey Elves excelled in swordplay, weapon crafting and battle tactics. The dwarves of the north found their match in the disciplined armies of the Grey Elves. Aside from their martial culture, most Grey Elves had and have an inherited talent for arcane magic. Many complemented their battle skills with sorcery. Few Grey Elves pursued a career as scholar in the arcane, however. By many Grey Elves, study and the pursuit of knowledge was seen as a waste of time and effort at best, and a crazed obsession at worst. When it comes to the world around them, they simply accept it’s existence. Trying to find out the how’s and why’s, the world’s inherent structure, is meaningless, because everything is in the hands of the gods and the gods’ ways are incomprehensible. This all doesn’t mean the Grey Elves are just rigid and bone-headed soldiers. While study is seen as a waste of time, the fine arts are certainly not viewed that way. Grey Elves of all statures found peace of mind in song, and mainly music and dance. This includes gracious sword-dances, another more martial touch. Grey Elves usually have a pale skin, white, grey or light blonde hair and grey, light blue or violet eyes.
