The unlucky scorer of the winning goal was Anthony Grant, who had also netted at the wrong end the last time the two sides met, in a 2–1 victory for Southend in October 2009. The Southend lineup featured two ex-Pirates, with Adam Barrett captaining the side, and Pat Baldwin also featuring, while future Rovers man Steve Mildenhall was between the sticks.

abstract
| - The unlucky scorer of the winning goal was Anthony Grant, who had also netted at the wrong end the last time the two sides met, in a 2–1 victory for Southend in October 2009. The Southend lineup featured two ex-Pirates, with Adam Barrett captaining the side, and Pat Baldwin also featuring, while future Rovers man Steve Mildenhall was between the sticks. Rovers went 2–0 down after just twelve minutes, but had levelled the scores by half time. Jeff Hughes put Rovers in front for the first time in the game early in the second half, before Scott Vernon made it 3–3. Franck Moussa was sent off after 65 minutes for kicking out at Byron Anthony in retaliation for the Welshman pulling his shirt, and some late pressure by Rovers brought about the decisive own goal.
