- The Abbot is a mini expansion included with the new edition of Carcassonne. The Abbot is a follower that can be placed as a monk on a monastery. It can also be placed on a garden, one of the features of the new edition. Gardens are scored exactly like a monastery, but only Abbots may be placed on them, not any other follower. The Abbot has an additional ability above the normal follower in that it can be removed from a monastery or garden before completion and scored at its current end-game value. The removal action is taken instead of placing another follower for your turn.
