The University of San Marcos is located in Lima, Peru, and was founded in 1551. It is regarded as the oldest continuously functioning university in the Western Hemisphere. In the 1930's, Professor Julio Huertas was associated with the university until his activism for the American People's Revolutionary Alliance got him exiled from the country for working against the pro-European government of Peru.
