Synopsis
| - Jonah Hex heads in to town to get revenge on Big Dan Willis, a man who recently tried to shoot him. Hex finds and dispatches Big Dan with ease in a nearby tavern. Not far away, a Chinese railroad worker is asking for his last six weeks of pay. He is shot dead. The other Chinese workers refuse to work, and their cold-hearted Irish bosses decide to settle things with a Gatling Gun. One man, Wing, survives and runs to tell his father. They try to find a solution for this problem. Luckily, another man had earlier seen Jonah Hex deal with Big Dan Willis earlier in the tavern, and they decide that Jonah Hex is the man they need.
The father finds Jonah Hex and asks for assistancem, but is too poor to offer Jonah an acceptable wage to risk hanging in the noose for killing men. When the father leaves O'Malley and a few other of O'Rourke's cronies are waiting. They hand the father a gun and shoot him down in a duel. The goons then start harrassing the man's daughter, Mei Ling. Jonah Hex's ain't havin' none of this, so he decides to intervene, and shoots the bullies dead in a duel. Mei Ling then blames Jonah for killing her father, since he refused to help. Jonah slaps her out cold and takes her to a room which he rents for her.
Days pass, and Jonah stops in to visit Mei Ling, to apologize for killing her father. However, Mei Ling has decided that it was not Jonah's fault after all. The two talk for some time, and then head into town together. Onlookers are shocked that they are looking at each other with loving eyes, including one of O'Rourke's men who helps plan a way to get revenge on Hex for the death of their buddies.
The thugs find and capture Mei Ling, and then send a message to Hex. Jonah recalls how earlier, Mei Ling had suggested that he hang-up his guns and quit, but Jonah realizes he can't figure out any other way to accomplish things. He puts on his guns and goes out to respond to the letter - a trap set by O'Rourke and his men!
Jonah gets the jump on one thug, and then dresses him up in his Grey's and sets him out. Tricking two men with his ploy, he gets the drop on them. Without so much as a challenge, the goons lie dead and Jonah frees Mei Ling. Jonah is about to profess his love to Mei Ling, but she stops him, claiming that it is not she Jonah loves, but the gentleness within himself. She says that he must find the courage to find that gentleness within himself and accept it before he can be free to love another. With that, she wishes him "Goodbye" and they depart.
