  • The Smashing Pumpkins were the main members of the Hullabalooza Rock Festival. They are impressed with Homer Simpson because of his ability to take blows to the stomach so easily and make him the main attraction. When Homer dodges one cannonball at the risk of dying, he parts with the Smashing Pumpkins, as they promise never to forget him. They tell him they envy him since he has a family and all they have is "our music, our legion of fans, our million of dollars and our youth." Before realising that's all amazing and start planning to buy luxury items.
  • Unfortunately, these Smashing Pumpkins are not the famous band. They are instead actual pumpkins, who Big Mean Carl destroys with a club during their rendition of "Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)." When Carl goes to destroy the third pumpkin, he begs for mercy; he's not a pumpkin after all...he's a squash. It turns out that being a squash is good enough for Carl, who pursues him offstage and into the KMUP control room. The two pumpkins also appeared in the online video "Cårven Der Pümpkîn".
  • The Smashing Pumpkin is Billy Corgan, an American songwriter, bassist, guitarist, drummer, pianist, saxophone player, violinist, computer programmer, oboe player, minstrel, the creator of Heaven and Earth and all things visible and invisble, and the world's most sexual man (often competing for title with Beck).

It has undergone many line-up changes over the course of its existence, with Corgan and rhythm guitarist Jeff Schroeder currently being the only official core members as of 2014. Disavowing the punk rock roots of many of their alt-rock contemporaries,[2] the Pumpkins have a diverse, densely layered, and guitar-heavy sound, containing elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, dream pop, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, shoegazing, and electronica in later recordings. Corgan is the group's primary songwriter—his grand musical ambitions and cathartic lyrics have shaped the band's albums and songs, which have been described as "anguished, bruised reports from Billy Corgan's nightmare-land".[3] The Smashing Pumpkins broke into the musical mainstream with their second album, 1993's Siamese Dream. The group built its audience with extensive touring and their 1995 follow-up, the double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart. With 20 million albums sold in the United States alone,[4][5] the Smashing Pumpkins was one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands of the 1990s. However, internal fighting, drug use, and diminishing record sales led to a 2000 break-up. In 2006, Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin reconvened to record a new Smashing Pumpkins album, Zeitgeist. After touring throughout 2007 and 2008 with a lineup including new guitarist Jeff Schroeder, Chamberlin left the band in early 2009. Later that year, Corgan began a new recording series entitled Teargarden by Kaleidyscope featuring a rotating lineup of musicians, that has resulted in the albums Oceania (2012), Monuments to an Elegy (2014), and a forthcoming album. As of 2015, Corgan and Schroeder are the sole permanent band members.[6] Monuments to an Elegy was released on December 9, 2014 [7]

O 22 de maio do 2007 a banda realizou o seu primeiro concerto dende a súa separación no 2000. A nova formación conta co guitarrista Jeff Schroeder e a baixista Ginger Reyes, aparte dos antigos membros Billy Corgan e Jimmy Chamberlin. En marzo do ano 2009 Jimmy Chamberlin anunciou a súa saída da banda de xeito amistoso. O seu substituto sería u descoñecido baterista de 19 anos chamado Mike Byrne.

Frontman Billy Corgan is the group's primary songwriter—his grand musical ambitions and cathartic lyrics have shaped the band's albums and songs, which have been described as "anguished, bruised reports from Billy Corgan's nightmare-land". However, internal fighting, drug use, and diminishing record sales hampered the band and led to a 2000 break-up. In 2006, the band officially announced that it was reuniting and recording a new album. Returning members Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin were joined by musicians Jeff Schroeder (guitar/vocals), Ginger Reyes (bass/vocals), and Lisa Harriton (keyboard/vocals) in 2007 to tour in support of their new release, Zeitgeist. In 2009, Chamberlin left the band; Corgan recruited drummer Mike Byrne as a replacement.
