Wireless in-ear monitors are becoming increasingly common for this purpose. A drummer will often have a special set of speakers, to output the Drum Mix. Larger setups can often include a dedicated Monitor Engineer to control instrument levels for each performer. The Sound Operator operating the mixing desk will usually have a set of monitors and/or headphones to listen to channels without them being output over the main system. This is referred to as Pre-Fade Listen.
