John Sidney McCain III (born December 11, 1943) is the forty-fourth and current President of the United States. He served as the senior United States Senator from Arizona from 1987 to 2000 before being sworn in as Jimi Hendrix's Vice President on January 20, 2001, after Dole refused to run again citing his age as a reason. On May 6, 2002, he announced his candidacy for President. He dominated the GOP nomination, becoming presumptive nominee by January 2004. He won in a landslide against Al Gore and his VP.
