Guy's older brother, Gerard, holds him back while their father leaves. Gloria has Gerard's partner, Marcus, take a picture of her and her brothers. As Gerard and Marcus leave for their shift, he gives Guy Orioles tickets and tells him to go with their father to try to make peace. When Guy arrives at his father's home to try to make peace, his father reacts belligerently and starts waving his cane around. Guy takes his cane and starts smashing the wall of photos. Guy hears on his father's police scanner that there's a situation going on a few blocks away and recognizes his brother's voice, leaving to help. Gerard is pinned down behind his squad car in a firefight against a house full of gang members. Just as the gang members are about to finish Gerard off, Guy shows up on his motorcycle and beats them up with his father's cane. He gets Gerard into the police car and sees Marcus's body with two bullet holes in his chest. Guy shoots the fuel tank on his bike, blowing it up, as a distraction so he can get his brother to safety. As they are driving away, a Green Lantern Power Ring appears overhead and recruits Guy. Guy immediately gets both Gerard and Marcus to a hospital. Back on the training outpost, Xar is about to smash Guy's skull in with his foot before Guy burst out with an aura of willpower and defeats him. With Xar locked away in the Sciencells, Kilowog takes Guy to the Green Lantern Central Power Battery and officially gives him his badge, showing he is now a full-fledged member of the Corps. Guy customizes his uniform and is finally greeted by Hal Jordan, his sector partner.
