L'Anse aux Meadows (Cove of jelly-fish) on Newfoundland was used by Vikings around 1000. It's also possible that Vikings explored the frozen north (modern 'Nunavut') as far as Baffin island. Jacques Cartier made 3 voyages to Canada between 1534-9 and explored the St Laurence River/Fleuve St.-Laurent, Prince Edward Island and the iroquois village of Hochelaga, site of the modern Montréal (Mons Realis).
