- Trajan (18 September AD 53 – 8 August 117) was the 13th Emperor of Rome, reigning from 98 to 117 AD. Born in Spain, he was the first Emperor born outside of Italy. His reign saw the empire at its greatest territorial extent after conquests in the Empire of Parthia. He also initiated substantial public works projects. He was deified upon his death by the Senate. His reputation as a great emperor continues up until the present. He was the second of the emperors which 18th-century English historian Edward Gibbon deemed the "Five Good Emperors".
- Trajan or Marcus Ulpius Traianus, was from 98 to 117 CE. Known as a benevolent ruler, his reign was noted for public projects which benefited the populace such as improving the dilapidated road system, constructing aqueducts, building public baths and extending the port of Ostia. Trajan was also a highly successful general and won three major conflicts against the Dacians and in the East, resulting in the Roman Empire reaching its greatest size up to that date.
- Trajan (Latin: Steriodus Viagrus Trajan; 18 September 53 – 9 August 117), was Roman Emperor from 98 to 117 AD. Succeeding Nerva as Emperor, he is best known for his feats of conquest and building the tallest symbolic penis in Rome.
- Born into a non-patrician family of Italian origin in the city of Italica in the province of Hispania Baetica, Trajan rose to prominence during the reign of emperor Domitian. Serving as a legatus legionis in Hispania Tarraconensis, in 89 Trajan supported Domitian against a revolt on the Rhine led by Antonius Saturninus. In September 96, Domitian was succeeded by Marcus Cocceius Nerva, an old and childless senator who proved to be unpopular with the army. After a brief and tumultuous year in power, a revolt by members of the Praetorian Guard compelled him to adopt the more popular Trajan as his heir and successor. Nerva died on 27 January 98, and was succeeded by his adopted son without incident.
