Reta was the Cealdish wife of a caravan leader, Roent. A hardworking couple, Reta and Roent managed their caravan with strict efficiency, keeping their workers as well as escorts moving quickly and early. While Roent was in all rights the leader of the business, the responsibility to manage their workers, goods, and bartering fell as much on Reta as it did on him. Kvothe traveled with them from Tarbean to the University for the price of two copper jots. At the end of his journey, however, Reta gave him back a single jot, fully half of the price he'd paid. Kvothe learned that this was not simply Reta's kindness, but that Roent had likely sent Reta to give it to him.
