- Fallout shelters are places to keep people safe from atomic/nuclear bombs and the ensuing radioactive fallout. The majority of them are underground. In the Fallout series, the main fallout shelters are called Vaults. However, there are several shelters above ground too, such as the Pulowski Preservation shelter.

- With the threat of a nuclear war on the horizon, some Americans looked for ways to protect themselves from horrible destruction. They decided upon bomb proof, fallout shelters. Most looked like basic units, providing space only for necessities (which were generally only two-week supplies) while others looked like small guesthouses, equipped with pool tables, paintings and wine cellars. The fallout shelter fad reached its peak in the early 60's as the Cuban Missile crisis loomed. But it was waned in the 70's as various treaties were signed, calming apocalyptic fears.
- Fallout Shelter ist eine frei spielbare Fortsetzung der Fallout-Reihe für iOS- und Android-Geräte sowie den PC. Das Spiel erlaubt es dem Spieler eine Vault zu erstellen und so der Aufseher der Einwohner zu werden. Auf Bethesdas E3 2015 Pressekonferenz am 14. Juni 2015 wurde das Spiel für iOS vorgestellt und direkt nach der Konferenz im iOS App Store veröffentlicht. Am 13. Juli 2016 wurde das Spiel für den PC veröffentlicht.

- A fallout shelter is an enclosed space specially designed to protect occupants from radioactive debris or fallout resulting from a nuclear explosion. Many such shelters were constructed as civil defense measures during the Cold War. During a nuclear explosion, matter vaporized in the resulting fireball is exposed to neutrons from the explosion, absorbs them, and becomes radioactive. When this material condenses in the rain, it forms dust and light sandy materials that resembles ground pumice. The fallout emits alpha and beta particles, as well as gamma rays.
- La idea detrás de este Fallout Shelter es que nos hagamos cargo de uno de los refugios que Vault-Tec tiene desperdigados por el yermo. A nuestro cargo y supervisión quedarán los moradores que vayan llegando huyendo de la hecatombe nuclear, y nuestro trabajo será darles cobijo, mantener en constante crecimiento el refugio y, por descontado, que su estancia en él sea lo más agradable posible.
