It's commonly used as a basic editor for HTML code, because Notepad does not support formatted text which would make the code harder to read. There are better alternatives, such as Notepad++, which allows syntax highlighting and a lot more which makes the coding process easier. Other editors often add in extra code that is not required.

Infatti, a differenza di altri software Microsoft, occupa poche risorse, si avvia velocemente, non crasha ogni quarto d'ora, non attiva BSOD, non è il veicolo di ingresso di virus e trojan, non ha falle di sicurezza, non si blocca (anche se si chiama blocco note)... Per tutti questi motivi, ci si chiede ancora se sia veramente un prodotto di casa Microsoft.

Newer versions of Windows include an updated version of Notepad with a search and replace function (Ctrl+<i>H</i>), as well as Ctrl+<i>F</i> for search and similar keyboard shortcuts. Notepad makes use of a built-in window class named "EDIT". In older versions such as those included with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows 3.1, there is a 64k limit on the size of the file being edited, an operating system limit of the EDIT class. Up to Windows 95, Fixedsys was the only available font for Notepad. Windows NT 4.0 and 98 introduced the ability to change this font.
