| - Octar Ironwall is a fighter and one of the current Captains of the Marali Vanguard. He is also known for his love for all magical things (esp. wizards, gapers, and battle axes of speed). He is the son of Charaton, but the story of his disgraced family is not in the public domain. Octar was first noticed by society in 436, when he joined the Vanguard of the northern city, at the time led by the ranger Fang. His first exploits are recorded in the narratives of the rise and fall of Rivolus and the Black Hand forts throughout the Bleeding Moon of the same year. Once the enemy was defeated, Octar took over a task that had been for a neglected for a long time: the rebuilding of the Vanguard. Supported mostly by his close friend Nial, at first, Octar recruited a whole new generation of armsmen and women, and was responsible for the return of old members such as Boric. After Fang's retirement, Octar was named Captain, a position he shares with Tarnus Quin and the druid Charonia (also lured back by the fighter's persuasive skills). His well-known obstinacy, put to a good use, was the key for an active and strong Vanguard, up to present. In battle, he stands out by being one of the few warriors wearing a black helmet with a regular set of plate, a fashionable option that he insists to have been motivated by his wish to help the clerics seeing him. He is also known for his good temper and sense of humour when things go wrong and he accidentally visits the grey world. Octar is the embodiment of many of the traditional values of Marali, from strength to celibacy, except for one minor betrayal: his favourite drink is still Andrisian champagne.
