The USS O'Brien was a US Navy Destroyer that was built late in the Great War. After Sam Carsten received his fitness report in 1924, he was reassigned from the USS Remembrance to the destroyer. The ship first made a good-will trip to Cork Harbor in Ireland, before sailing to Brest in France. There the crew found themselves welcomed by the locals and had their first encounter with Action Francaise. After returning to the United States, Carsten transferred back to the Remembrance. Although it was like returning to an old friend, he felt a pang of regret, leaving the O'Brien.
