| - Acerbus Animus, later known and feared as the Sith Lord Darth Contemnus, was an Echani male. Born on the Echani homeworld of Eshan, Animus was discovered to be Force-sensitive by the Jedi Order when he was a year old and was subsequently taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for training. At the age of eleven, Animus was selected to be the Padawan of Jedi master Tern Kath, a Zabrak. Animus flourished under Kath's guidance and became proficient with both a lightsaber and the Force. However, Kath could never quite eliminate the aggressive fighting style that Animus used, and that Kath was sure stemmed from some hidden anger. As time went by, it became clear that Animus was one of the few Jedi, or Force-sensitives as a whole for that matter, who was able to wield a double-bladed lightsaber. Being a Jedi Guardian, Animus used a blue crystal in his lightsaber. Animus and Kath went on several missions together, often landing themselves in danger. One of the most prolific of these was their mission to Dac where the two Jedi were called upon to settle a dispute between the Quarren and the Mon Calamari, which might have otherwise led to full-scale war. Soon after Animus's knighting, the Great Galactic War broke out. The True Sith Empire had returned and invaded the galaxy in a series of lightning attacks that caught the Galactic Republic, and the Jedi Order, completely off-guard. Before long, however, the Republic and the Jedi had both mobilized and had met the Empire in battle after battle. It was in one of these battles that Animus was captured by the Sith. Animus was taken to Korriban and tortured. However, instead of dying from the torture, Animus gave into his rage and broke free, slaughtering the Dark Jedi keeping him prisoner. He eventually dueled Darth Saevius, who easily bested the young Jedi. Impressed by his show of skill and encouraged by Animus's giving in to his emotions, Saevius took Animus as one of two hopefuls, the other being a young Twi'lek named Xanthos, each competing with the other to become Saevius's apprentice. The contest between the two was simple. After a month of training, they would face off against each other and the victor would be Saevius's apprentice. Animus, who knew he could never go back to the Jedi, was determined to win. And win he did, when the day finally arrived that he and Xanathos faced off. Killing Xanathos in cold blood at the end of their duel, Animus finally became fully integrated with the Dark Side of the Force. Becoming Saevius's apprentice, Acerbus Animus became Darth Contemnus. As Contemnus, the young Echani was given a new lightsaber and was taught Force powers by his new master that the Jedi would never teach. He was also encouraged to use his aggressive fighting style and to channel all his rage and hate into every swing of his lightsaber. Before long, Contemnus was given command of his own ship, the Indestructible. This ship served as Contemnus's primary means of transport across the galaxy, though he did also pilot a modified fighter for space combat and for traveling onto planets. Contemnus's standing within the Empire, and his infamy without it, grew as the years went by. Within seven years of his becoming a Sith Lord, Contemnus answered only to the Dark Council and to the Sith Emperor, and was one of the most successful Jedi-killers of the time. At the end of the war came Contemnus's most prolific mission ever. Alongside twenty-four fellow Sith Lords, and commanded by Darth Malgus, Contemnus attacked the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and, following its destruction, joined the larger battle outside. After the fall of Coruscant, the war ended. Contemnus, now an assassin rather than a soldier, was used by the Dark Council to destabalize the crumbling Republic and hopefully achieve Sith domination of the galaxy. It was on one of these missions that Contemnus met his end. Sent to kill a Jedi master on Manaan, Contemnus found the Jedi master to be none other than Tern Kath. The former master and apprentice dueled fiercely, but eventually Contemnus was killed by the older Jedi.
