El motivo de esta recopilación de juegos, según explicó Akitoshi Kawazu, productor ejecutivo de Square Enix, era la de dar a conocer el mundo de Ivalice de una forma más general y así introducir a nuevos jugadores en el universo Final Fantasy, que no tenían por que ser jugadores asiduos de RPGs. El logotipo creado para la ocasión consiste en una espada rodeada por los 12 signos zodiacales más serpentarius.
