The M230 Baton round was a special type of ammunition for the underslung 30mm U1 Grenade Launcher of an M41A Pulse Rifle. The Baton round fires a low-velocity plastic projectile capable of incapacitating or even disabling an unprotected human. Primarily used during civil disturbances, the M230 was rarely issued to Colonial Marines. According to former Colonial Marine Patrice Riegert, the USCM used these rounds in combination with CS gas to quell a worker's strike at the end of the Cristóbal campaign.
