  • Nick Nelson of the Space Patrol and his Martian gunner, Kodi, find a strange object silhouetted against Earth's Moon. It is a gambling ship called the Sky Palace. The ship is operated by a Plutonian named Jol. Patroller Nick Nelson goes aboard the craft in his spacesuit, sneaking in when the doors open to permit spacecraft of Sky Palace members. Nick gains entrance to the casino, taking up a booth there to observe the patrons. He notes Martian Space Bandits, a Saturnian Drug Smuggler, and a Mercurian Space Pirate among the revelers. Jol talks soothingly to Nick, but Nick tells him that the patroller will have to make some arrests. He further informs Jol that he's realized the ship is "crammed with the scum of the solar system!" Jol sets groups of the space criminals against Jol, who rushes to the "gravity generator controls" and increases gravity in all the rooms excepting the control room. Jol escapes in his Space Car, as he is unaffected by the increased gravity. Nick signals Kodi to chase after Jol. Kodi does so, making Jol nervous and causing him to crash into a projection of lava on the Moon. The freezing air of the Moon seeps into the car and petrifies Jol into a frozen corpse. Kodi is glad that he didn't have to shoot Jol down. Nick has made a call from the Sky Palace ship to the Space Patrol, and soon the patrol spacecrafts arrive in force. Nick assists his fellows from the Space Patrol in the arrests. A captain of the Space Patrol, impressed with Kodi's flying skills, offers Kodi his own ship. Kodi turns the offer down, preferring to "string along" with Nick.
