The Katan family was a rich Human family which was found on Liinade III by 1000 ABY, the family was quite well known on Liinade III for its "tall gene", e.g. Erana Katan was 6'4, tall for a woman, whilst her father was 6'7, very tall to most of his fellow humans. Through there wealth and nice personalities of most Koytas family member they were quite prominent on there homeworld, but in terms of the galaxy were quite low prominence, until Erana escaped from slavery and spoke out about her story the family was highly prominent in the galaxy.

Through there wealth and nice personalities of most Koytas family member they were quite prominent on there homeworld, but in terms of the galaxy were quite low prominence, until Erana escaped from slavery and spoke out about her story the family was highly prominent in the galaxy. The Katan family could trace its ancestry back to Coruscant, the family traced its ancestry and found that in 529 ABY a man called Rikko Katan moved from Coruscant to Liinade III, an Agriworld in the Outer Rim Territories in order to start farming. According to his diaries he kept he had dreamed about settling down on a peaceful agricultural world and making a living growing vegetables and raising animals for a living. Many of his descendants continued the family business of farming, some though, chose to work in Liinade III's capital, the small city of Valleyport. For centuries the family lived in peace until 1000 ABY, when the N'Akkiarlian Star Empire conquered the world during the Great N'Akkiarlian War, their produce went to feed their N'Akkiarlian masters and Erana Katan was taking as a slave by a N'Akkiarlian soldier, not returning to Liinade III for another two years as she was a servant in the solder's home on N'Akkiarl Major before managing to escape with her son, Alexander.
