The Helm Officer is in charge of operating the helm console (conn) and controlling the speed and heading of the ship. In connection with flight operations, he/she is responsible for warp, impulse, and thruster controls during space travel, landing sequences, and docking procedures. Most Helm Officers also function as navigators, plotting the ship's course. At times, he/she may take on the responsibilities of the Operations Officer as well, handling sensors, accessing communications, and monitoring ship-wide status.
