In 2259, the Trimuvirate was in the midst of a bloody civil war and appealed to the Earth Alliance for aid against the rebel faction. EarthGov initially denied the request, but then began to assemble an infantry division under the command of General Richard Franklin to attack the rebel stronghold at Matok, on the planet Akdor, in an action codenamed Operation Sudden Death. Earthforce had decided that the planet was strategically important enough given the escalating hostilities throughout the galaxy and wanted to set up presence in the sector. Operation: Sudden Death was a success, though General Franklin suffered heavy casualties.
