The Aan Empire was a regional empire that originated on the world of Aantooine and later encompased a stretch of what became the Core Worlds. As the Aan pushed towards the Core, they founded and/or invaded several planets, and renamed them with an -aan suffix. Examples include Alderaan, Manaan, Chardaan, Taloraan, and Endoraan. The Empire, along with their enemy, the Tooin Empire were destroyed by an unknown force sometime around 55,000 BBY.

Beings carried on the tradition of naming planets as so long after the destruction of the Aan and the Tooins, to where the meaning simply became lost in history.
