Wolof is a west African nation. It was Malayized in the seventeenth century by the empire of Sri Vijaya. Due to contact with the Sri Vijayans, Hinduism and Buddhism both grew greatly in Wolof. Hinduism gained the upper hand due to the support of the monarchy and Hindu immigrants from Sri Vijaya. Wolof avoided being colonized and soon dominated much of West Africa, and still does today. It is developing, though it is behind the Asian nations.
