Inside there is a Dwarf multicannon. Try to take it. It will turn into a Possessed cannon which will start attacking you. You need a Granite platebody and Maul now or it will wipe you out. Attack the cannon trying to avoid the fire and when it is dead take the Cannon shards back to Captain Lawgof. You will explain about what happened and he will tell you that now you have destroyed it he wants you to develop a new model. He gives you 60 Cannonsteel bars, (they stack) a hammer and a Cannon V2 mould and tells you to go to the Furnace of Power in the wilderness. At the Furnace of Power there is a guard at the entrance who will not let you in unless you have over 1200 total level. When you go in use the bars on the furnace and you will result in having a Dwarf cannon V2 in your inventory. Note: if you do not have 78 Smithing then the furnace will not allow you to use its power. Return to Captain Lawgof and give him the Cannon. He will explain that he is 'chuffed' and will request that you try smithing various different types of Cannonballs. He will give you all the needed materials to smith the Dragon cannonball and the Ancient cannonball. Go back to the furnace of power and smith them. Then return to Captain Lawgof, give him the cannonballs and you will have finished the quest. Congratulations! Quest Complete!
