Biography
| - Derrick Gilchrist is a former NASCAR driver from Kannapolis, NC. He competed in ten Nationwide Series and one Craftsman Truck Series event in his career.
Nationwide Series
Gilcrest's debut came in 1999, when he drove for Andy Petree Racing at ORP. Starting 35th in the field of forty-three, Gilcrest crashed out of the event late and finished a disappointing 34th.
Still, Gilcrest was hired by Petree to compete for him in a limited schdule in 2000. Splitting time between APR as well as the #82 SABCO Chevy, Gilcrest found the series to be extremely tough. Five DNFs during the year, including three crashes, hampered Gilcrest's efforts to be competitive. In fact, Gilcrest managed just one top-twenty: a career-best 19th place run at ORP. Following the Michigan event, where he finished last, Gilcrest was released.
Craftsman Trucks
Gilcrest's lone foray into the Truck Series came in 2001, when he competed for Billy Ballew Motorsports. Starting 35th in the field of thirty-six, Gilcrest showed his best potential thus far, completing all but one lap in route to a 17th place finish.
