1. I propose a vote on a change in the Air Nation system of government (this does not include a change for the former Air Nomads). I propose that the system of government be changed from Unitary Pseudo-Ecclesiocracy to either: A. Unitary Selected Autocracy B. Unitary Elected Autocracy 3. One last thing, I also propose that the capital of the Air Nation be named as Air Temple Island as it is the primary residence of the head of state (Tenzin). Please clearly state which of the two proposals you support or disagree with. NickM98 (wall • contribs) 10:32, December 11, 2014 (UTC)

  • 1. I propose a vote on a change in the Air Nation system of government (this does not include a change for the former Air Nomads). I propose that the system of government be changed from Unitary Pseudo-Ecclesiocracy to either: A. Unitary Selected Autocracy B. Unitary Elected Autocracy This is due to the Air Nation not being an ecclesiocracy (not even a pseudo-ecclesiocracy in my opinion) and an elected/selected autocratic system of government better reflects the current system with Tenzin as the elected/selected head of state, probably elected by the Air Acolytes (the Acolyte Abbots are simply local heads appointed by the head of state to run the air temples and the other Air Acolytes within each temple, they still fall under Tenzin's authority). 2. I also propose that the title of the Air Nation head of state be made "High Master" as the head of state can only be an airbending master due to their high spirituality (currently Tenzin) and "high" in the title reflects their superiority over the other airbending masters (inspired by "High Sage", leader of the Fire Sages). 3. One last thing, I also propose that the capital of the Air Nation be named as Air Temple Island as it is the primary residence of the head of state (Tenzin). Please clearly state which of the two proposals you support or disagree with. NickM98 (wall • contribs) 10:32, December 11, 2014 (UTC) Due to the amounts of "probably", I don't see a reason to change. We don't have any sources of that. Tenzin represents the Air Nation, yes, since he's the only adult airbending master and as the previously sole airbending master, he had the power to say when someone reached mastery status, but who's to say that Jinora doesn't hold that power now as well? Tenzin did say at the end of "Venom of the Red Lotus", "Now, let us anoint the master who will help lead us in our new path." We don't know if the head of the Air Nation can only be an airbending master. It's not because it's currently Tenzin that that has to be the rule. It's also not because Tenzin resides on ATI that it is the capital of the nation. As such, I oppose all of these changes due to being mainly speculation and generalizations. 10:40, December 11, 2014 (UTC) Tenzin would have more authority that Jinora, mainly due to age and experience. The quote concerning Jinora simply meant that she will help Tenzin guide the new Air Nation, she has not shown any interests in governing the Air Nation or representing it (due to Tenzin's position and experience, and her being a child). The head of state would have to be a master due to experience and a degree of respect amongst other airbenders and Air Acolytes, and from what we know, the head cannot be a nonbender as all people born within the old Air Nomads and the new Air Nation, are born airbenders (e.g. a civilised country in our world would not select some random person who is not a politician and knows nothing about politics to run their country, some of this works on pure common sense). Could we also wait for opinions of other users before deciding please? NickM98 (wall • contribs) 10:50, December 11, 2014 (UTC) "Tenzin would have more authority that Jinora, mainly due to age and experience.é That's what we would assume due to transporting adult/child authority relations from our world to the Avatar World, though the Avatar World also has 16-year-old absolute ruler (like Zuko and Desna and Eska), without either being aided by a council or whatever. As such, that's pure speculation to base an entire political system on. "she has not shown any interests in governing the Air Nation or representing it (due to Tenzin's position and experience, and her being a child)" Again, pure speculation. She was considered mature enough to accompany Korra to face down Kuvira. "would have to be a master due to experience and a degree of respect amongst other airbenders and Air Acolytes" Not necessarily. Physical power isn't all what it's about. Experience, yes, but many examples can be found in the Avatar franchise of a child having done a lot of things and having earned respect from their elders due to that. "from what we know, the head cannot be a nonbender as all people born within the old Air Nomads and the new Air Nation, are born airbenders" This is just partially factually incorrect. Yes, it's true for the Air Nomads, though not for the Air Nation. We know that a nonbender Air Acolyte has represented the nation on the United Republic Council when Sokka was chairman. Granted, we don't know if he truly was the head of the nation or just the representative. However, we also don't know that Aang, the sole airbending master at that time, was considered the head, because it's also very plausible that he, as the Avatar, would abstain from obviously choosing the side of one nation above all others. Also, we don't know anything about the new airbenders passing on airbending to their children. "a civilised country in our world would not select some random person who is not a politician and knows nothing about politics to run their country, some of this works on pure common sense" As noted above, no country in our world would also allow a sixteen-year-old to govern an entire nation on their own or let a twelve-year-old go into battle willingly (child soldiers are considered a real problem and we're trying to prevent that from happening etc.) As such, it's clear that "common sense" in our world cannot just be transported to fit the Avatar World. "Could we also wait for opinions of other users before deciding please?" Nothing has been decided yet. I just voiced my opinion. It's not because I'm an administrator and I am personally against this change that that's that. My opinion holds no more merit than anyone else's and since this is a War Room discussion, it will only be closed three days after the last opinion and it'll be closed in favor of the option supported by the majority. 11:17, December 11, 2014 (UTC) I oppose the changes per LL's reasoning. File:Waterbending emblem.png Water Spout 06:16, December 12, 2014 (UTC) I agree with the change of the nation's political system into "United Selected Autocracy". There is no reference of any sort of elections within the Air Nation. It just seems like its people choose their leader because of experience, knowledge of air nomad culture, airbending abilities etc. I also agree with the change of the capital being the ATI. It's the head of the Air Acolytes, the training grounds for airbender and the current head of state's residence. However I don't agree with the "High Master" thing. It wasn't mentioned and I don't think that the Air Nation really cares about the name of its ruler. 17:28, December 12, 2014 (UTC) And what truly canonical proof can you bring to the discussion to support your claim that ATI is the capital of the AN? It's not because it's the most well known "airbending hub" that it's therefore the capital. Real world example: a lot of people think Sydney is the capital of Australia just because most people know of it due to its famous opera house, though it's in fact Canberra that's the capital. Same with the political system: "There is no reference of any sort of elections within the Air Nation." True. And where is the reference to the "fact" that "its people choose their leader because of experience, knowledge of air nomad culture, airbending abilities etc."? 00:18, December 13, 2014 (UTC) I oppose the changes for the reasons Lady Lostris stated. Also, where is the proof that the Air Nation is even a "ecclesiocracy" like the Air Nomads? While the temples are governed by abbots, the government status of the Air Nation was never mentioned; we don't even know if it is its own country or a NGO. After all, everyone who wishes so can join it regardless of their ethnic or cultural origins, and the Air Nation's actions (helping people and governments around the world, negotiating and keeping peace) rather resemble a NGO than a independent country. I think we should remove the Air Nation government information altogether for the lack of sources. DyingFlameTsui (wall • contribs) 17:21, December 13, 2014 (UTC) @LL: The Air Temple Island is the place where Tenzin (the head of the government) is actually living and controling anything in the Air Nation. I believe that the capital's role is to be the most influential city/place of a nation. And the ATI has that position. Also they choose their leader because obviously nobody has ever opposed to Tenzin. They chose him to be the head of the state. Or else everybody would just doubt his leadership. @DyingFlame: That's why "United Selected Autocracy" is better than "ecclesiocracy". It is its own country. Tenzin is considered one of the world leader, and is equal to all of them. He could oppose to Raiko's proposals of sending airbender to fight and called them "my airbenders". It's obviously it's own nation. Anybody can join the AIR ACOLYTES, but not the Air Nation. Only airbender can join the Air Nation. And what about the ethnic origins? Are all the people of the URN of the same cultural and ethnic origins? No. 18:21, December 13, 2014 (UTC) "I believe that the capital's role is to be the most influential city/place of a nation." Exactly: you believe. However, your belief is therefore not canonically accurate. Calling ATI the AN's capital is purely an assumption, which is something we don't do. "They chose him to be the head of the state." Can you please link me to your official source that states this to be the truth? "Anybody can join the AIR ACOLYTES, but not the Air Nation. Only airbender can join the Air Nation." We really don't know this, so using that as an argument is a inaccurate on itself. 01:56, December 14, 2014 (UTC) @Antonismage: As Lady Lostris said, there is no proof for your assumptions in regard of the AN's government or capital. Also, according to "The Promise" Aang considered the Air Acolytes as the Air Nomads' legitimate successors. Futhermore, an Air Acolyte represented the Air Nation during Yakone's time in Republic City. Both at least suggest, if not proof that the Air Acolytes are part of the Air Nation. Regardless, we are facing a simple lack of sources here, so we cannot definitively prove either these or your assumptions. DyingFlameTsui (wall • contribs) 02:47, December 14, 2014 (UTC) @Lady Lostris: Perhaps my selection of words there wasn't really correct. Lemme rephrase it by giving some examples. The capital of each nation is the most influential city/place of the nation. Ba Sing Se has the most important role in the Earth Kingdom the same with Republic City in the URN etc. In all nations the capital is the place where the head of the government lives and the center of a nation's administration. This is a role held by ATI in the Air Nation. It influences all the other places of the Air Nation, most airbenders are trained there and Jinora's airbending tatoo ceremony was held there. It could have been held in every other temple but it didn't. And making a second airbender, an airbending master is an important event. It is apparently obvious that they made him the head of the state, because (other than nobody has shown any kind of doubting his authority) he was able to stand against the decision of President Raiko, about the airbenders helping URN. If the airbenders hadn't chosen him as their leader, then it would be up to them to decide whether or not they would like to help. Also I don't think that I've ever seen any non-airbender in the Air Nation. If somebody who bends another element or is a non-bender wants to follow the Air Nomad culture becomes an Air Acolyte. Tenzin was thinking about the restoration of the Air Nation, only when the airbenders appeared after the Harmonic Convergence. 19:09, December 14, 2014 (UTC) While your examples are true in the sense that Ba Sing Se and Republic City are the most influential cities and the capitals in their respective nation, you are not correct in your deduction that they are the capital because of their influential status. They are the capital because official sources stated them to be the capital. Since no official source has recognized ATI as the AN's capital, neither shall we, since that's pure speculation. Tenzin's undoubtedly the AN's representative. However, that's all we know from official sources. Anything more are assumptions and speculations from our part, which is, again, something we don't do. We simply don't know what the status of the Air Acolytes is within the Air Nation. As such, making any claim about whether they are or are not a part of the nation is once again speculation. 23:29, December 14, 2014 (UTC)
