Invented in the early 1890s in order to be used as the official language of the Ponant, this language is now one of the most spoken languages in the world. This language is normalized by the Linguestudeyo de Ponanton, which is regulated by the ministry of education and culture. At the beginning, this language was made to counter the opposition of Northern provinces to the use of Criollatina as official language. Although the resulting language is close enough to the Criollatina, it has gained acceptation of reluctant provinces and the language was adopted as a nationwide official one in the year 1894. Total adoption of the language was not immediate, and it took a very long time to the society and the state to adopt this language : Educational system has been totally converted in the early 1912. Administration followed the movement of "kriollatinization" a few years later, followed by medias. According to census, first native speakers of that language was censed in the beginning of the year 1900. It strongly increased during the following decades : the first million native speakers was reached in 1935. In 1950, they were 8 million ; in 1975, 14 million ; in 1990, 45 million ; and in 2005, some organisation estimate the number at 65, and others at more than 80 million. L2 speakers were 30% of the total population in the late 1940 ; this number increased to 70% in 1955, 85% in 1970, and finally 97% of the total population in 2000. The efforts in spreading the language overseas, especially in Latin America, have increased the number of speakers of this language : the number of L2 speakers outside the Ponant is estimated to 60 million in 2005. The number of Kriollatino native speakers increases as mobility and mixed marriages increases. And it has been noted that the number of new native speakers is currently growing at an average rate of 1.76% a year.
