He played junior hockey for the Niagara Falls Flyers from 1962 to 1966, winning the Memorial Cup in 1965. Snell turned pro with the Hershey Bears in 1966 and, except for 54 games with the Phoenix Roadrunners in 1968-69, stayed with the American Hockey League (AHL) team until 1973. He won the Calder Cup with Hershey in 1969. Snell played in 104 NHL games and scored 7 goals and 18 assists.
