They currently compete in the Missouri Valley Conference. The team last played in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in 2006, where they beat the #10 seeded Seton Hall Pirates from the Big East, and upset the #2 seeded Tennessee Volunteers from the SEC to reach the Sweet Sixteen. The Shockers were upset in the Sweet Sixteen by the George Mason Patriots. The Shockers then made it to the College Basketball Invitational tournament after the 2008-09 season, their first post-season appearance since their NCAA tournament run in '06.
