Many had predicted losses for the Liberals and few expected Rein to step down as leader. However, his place as leader was challenged in 3310. Utilizing the new leadership rules and electoral college, Rein was reelected as leader. Months later, Parliament was dissolved and early elections were held. While the party doubled it's share in the presidential election, the Liberals only gained 13 seats in Parliament. Shortly following the election, Rein resigned as leader.
