Unlike urban LGBT populations, which tend to be the greatest concentrations of community relations and activism, suburban and rural LGBT populations are much more diffused within the general rural population of any given region. Moreover, while urban, suburban and rural LGBT populations are generally prone to negative interactions with heterocentrist neighbors and residents, suburban and rural LGBT populations are often less galvanized towards activism against visible or perceived slights against their sexual or gender identities. However, suburban and rural LGBT individuals are usually the most visible, and sometimes the most vocal, de-facto representatives of LGBT interests in suburban and rural communities,to varying degrees of success.
