The Manor Estate lies on generally north-facing slopes about a mile to the south-east of Sheffield city centre. The council built most of the housing in the neighbourhood in the 1920s and 1930s, with a second phase of building taking place in the 1950s. The estate was very modern when originally built. It was laid out on both side of a wide dual carriageway which form part of the outer ring road. There are several crescents with shops arranged around them. The estates had massive amounts of green space, compared to the slums that the residents were moved from in the city centre and Don valley areas.

The estates had massive amounts of green space, compared to the slums that the residents were moved from in the city centre and Don valley areas. In the 1980s, regeneration projects to upgrade the properties were undertaken, but a lot of properties had problems with wall tie failure due to the black mortar used corroding them. Some were stripped back to their bare shells and almost totally rebuilt. But this was very expensive and eventually it was decided that it was not viable. Thus, a number of areas were cleared in the 1980s and subsequently re-built with new council and Housing Association properties. Some remaining vacant sites have been taken up by new-build private sector housing with new developments contributing to improving the sustainability of the area. There are Large areas still to be rebuilt. To stop some of the crime problems on the estate roads have being blocked off to stop through traffic.
