Robert Richford Brown (1853-1917) was a businessman and local politician in the East End of London. Born in Poplar, he was the son of Robert Brown, a shipwright, and Rosa Maria née Richford. In 1889 he was described as a corn and flour merchant at 29 Abbott Road, Bromley. In that year he was appointed a manager of the Brunswick Road Group of Schools, Poplar by the London School Board. He became a member of Poplar Borough Council and served as Mayor of Poplar in 1909-10.
