Thoreau is a Pixl creature in Super Paper Mario. He resembles a block, and has five small bright circles around his top half. His special ability is to allow Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, or Luigi to pick up and throw (hence the name) enemies. He is vital in fighting O'Chunks early in the game, as well as solving certain puzzles.

However, he is the first Pixl that you have to unlock to obtain and he is your first "Special Pixl", that you need to switch with other of this kind, and he can't be switched with Tippi. He is a square with five small circles arranged on top which makes it resemble a hand. Thoreau is required to make Green allow Mario to pass through into the desert. He is less commonly used because his abilities are replaced by other Pixls and characters. Thoreau tells Mario and Tippi upon his release that the Ancients had locked him away in a Chest for 1,500 years, and decides to join Mario's party to repay him.

| - Thoreau is one of the many pixls that follows and aids Mario in his quest to recover the Pure Hearts in Super Paper Mario. Thoreau is only the second pixl that Mario finds, and allows the heroes to pick up and throw enemies and other objects. Thoreau can first be found in World 1 - 2 of the Yold Desert, where he is found in a secret room in the Yold Town. Thoreau claims that he was made by the ancients and that he was locked in the treasure chest over a 1500 years ago. He doesn't recognize Tippi when they first meet. After he is obtained the mayor, Old Man Watchitt will let Mario pass to the Yold Desert. Thoreau is vital for defeating Buzzy Beetles, Bald Clefts, and Fracktail. Thoreau's grab ability can be used at any time by pressing the 1 button on the Wii Remote. Doing so will allow Mario to grab enemies and hold them until he wants to throw them.
