The Holographic HUD Pilot Information System was a starfighter modification that used High-Resolution Holoprojectors to overlay tactical and navigational data directly onto the inside of the fighter's canopy in a way that the information moved with the relevant target. This would allow the Pilot to 'target box' specific foes, making for quicker visual identification, or overlay brightly coloured topographical representations onto difficult terrains and environments. The system also made it easier for Pilots to fly and fight in otherwise visually impairing environments (such as inside a thick, gaseous nebula or atmosphere), by representing solid masses (such as other ships) with Holographic 'ghosts'.

The technology evolved directly from more conventional targeting computers used on Rebel fighters during the Galactic Civil War. This technology was used on the XJ9D X-Wing starfighter flown by Dragon Squadron, among others.
