Pierre takes a tumble down a steep cliff, breaking his leg. Pep sets his friend's leg and carries him through the snowy mountains until they find a cave that can be used for shelter. A bear hibernating inside attacks them, but Pep's quick shot downs the beast. A fire is built using the sticks and twigs the bear had made a nest out of. The bear's body is cut into slices of meat to cook over the fire. Pierre notes there wasn't enough to sustain them both over a long period, so Pep leaves him for now, heading out to find the trade post.
A long hike through cold, unforgiving weather leaves Pep exhausted by the time he reaches the trading post. Two men inside help him warm up with a hot bowl of soup. Pep tells them about Pierre still trapped out there, so one of the men lends out his dog sled to help Pep bring Pierre back safe. Wolves surround the cave when Pep returns. He takes out his gun and fires, scaring them off. But what was the fate of Pierre? Thanks to the fire and a large branch-turned-club, Pierre was able to keep the wolves at bay. Securing his friend snugly onto the sled, Pep mushes the dogs back to the Trading Post, where Pierre can get the attention he needs to make a full recovery!
