In ALF Plays Detective, ALF gets suspicious of Mr. Litwack, a man in the neighborhood who spends time in his garage at night amidst pulsating light. ALF is convinced he is a spy, but after some detective work, finds out that he is merely a shy man that enjoys building and using a short-wave radio as a hobby. The pulsating light was simply Mr. Litwack welding parts for his radio.
