abstract
| - The nation was formed in 1776 when Luxembourg and Belgium came under the monarchy of Leopold II of Belgium. Leopold wanted to unite the Benelux region but the highly independent Netherlands government refused to enter fully into the union. The Netherlands did not join the kingdom until the Netherland Recession 1865 which resulted in the collapse of the Netherlands' economy and government. The monarch at the time Benjamin who was first cousin of Queen Fien was invited in to restore order in the country and in 1867 the Netherlands officially joined the kingdom. Since 1932 the country has been under a Federal constitutional monarchy system. The country is made up of three National regions which are: Holland, Letzebuerg and Flanders-Wallonia. These regions all have their own executive, legislative and judicial branch. The central government controls the military, money, foreign relations and trade. All other policies are controlled by the regions. The head of government of the country is the Prime Minister of Benelux who is nominated by the House of Commons and appointed by the Monarchy. The current prime minister is Xandar Dubois. The country is culturally and ethnically diverse. The majority ethnic groups of the Flemish, Wallonians, Luxembourgish and Dutch are all collectively known as Beneluxian but have rich and diverse histories. Most of the country is green lowlands earning the region the nickname "the Lowlands". Agriculture in Benelux is a large component in the economy relative to international figures. The country generates over 1 trillion grulden per year with a GDP per capita at around 48,000 Grulden.
