Synopsis
  • After setting a British fort ablaze, Tomahawk angrily burst into the fire on horseback, eager to take his revenge on the men who betrayed him and the Americans they allied with under Colonel Lancaster. Those same American soldiers had seen to it that Tomahawk's family were murdered at the Shawnee settlement. After cornering Lancaster, Tomahawk decapitated him, frightening the British betrayers into scrambling for an escape. As further vengeance, Tomahawk hunted down Benjamin Gaines of the British army, and crippled his spine. Lying paralyzed, Gaines warned that the Americans would never stop their plan to eradicate the natives. Rallying his band, Tomahawk dared them to come for him. He swore that though he and his people may not win, they would fight to their last breath.
  • For the last month, Jonah Hex has been drowning his woes in alcohol, having broken his leg, and been confined to the Arkham's mansion under the care of nurse Constance Chambers. She is not at all impressed with his drinking, and has decided to remove every drop of alcohol from the house, much to his distaste. Sick of being trapped in Gotham City and trapped in a wheelchair, Hex considers suicide, but he is interrupted by Constance, who has come to ask him what he'd like for dinner. That night, after Constance leaves, Jonah is annoyed by the constant whining and screaming of Mrs. Elizabeth Arkham, upstairs. No longer interested in putting up with it, he grabs his lucky tomahawk, and climbs the stairs with intent to end the old woman's life. When he enters her room, however, she immediately welcomes him as Edward Rochester, believing him to be the character from the novel . He sees no reason not to let her continue thinking that, glad at least to have stopped her screaming for her son. The next morning, Jonah shaves his scraggly beard and wheels out into the yard with Ms. Arkham. Constance is confused by the apparent change in her, and Hex recommends that she play along with the Jane Eyre theme, having already been confused for Alice Fairfax. As the old woman wanders away in her contented delirium, Hex and Constance are interrupted by the appearance of Mr. Hyde. Hyde has come to speak to Amadeus Arkham, but he is happy enough to kill the other residents of the Arkham household in his absence. Fortunately, the fact that Constance is menstruating is enough to deter him from feasting on her flesh, but Hex - even in his weakened state - is a fair prize. At the man's mercy, Hex struggles with the pain in his broken leg. Fortunately, Constance reappears with Hex's pistol, and he manages to unload its shots into Hyde's chest. A transformation occurs, and Hyde reverts to the young and feeble Dr. Jekyll. Coldly, Hex orders Constance to help him remove the bullets - the doctor owes him money. After Constance's prodigious medical skills are put to use saving Jekyll's life, Hex shuffles outside to a cliff overlooking the ocean, and determinedly tosses Hyde's elixer and its Black Diamond bottle into the sea.
