  • A barrowbug was a type of insect animal found on the planet Bajor.
  • Barrowbugs were small creatures native to Bajor that lived in mounds. The Bajoran resistance fighter Lupaza once compared a successful raid on a Cardassian base with "kicking over a mound of barrowbugs." (DS9: "Ties of Blood and Water") In the Star Trek: Terok Nor novel Day of the Vipers, they are compared to Earth cockroaches. However, they are about the size of a humanoid's fist and spit acidic venom. According to the RPG sourcebook Creatures, barrowbugs are only 0.1cm in size. They normally feed on Bajoran plants which have a high mineral content, but if accidentally transported to other planets with lower plant nutrients, they will defoliate entire regions to sate themselves. Barrowbugs have a stinger to defend against predators.
