The Gila Archipelago is located in the Malachite Ocean. The name of the archipelago comes from that of the gila monster, a large venomous lizard found in the south-western United States and Mexico. It is one of only two venomous lizard species in the world, though its bite is normally not fatal to humans. The islands in this archipelago are also named for poisonous creatures, plants, and substances.
