The League Cup is a competition for English league sides only. Like the FA Cup, it is played on a knockout (single elimination) basis, though a far fewer number of teams take park (92, as aposed to the FA Cups 762). The winners of the cup are awarded a European place.

- The League Cup is competed for by the British and Irish Quidditch League. The Montrose Magpies are the most successful team in the league, having won the League Cup thirty-two times.
- The League Cup (currently known by the sponsored title of the Capital One Cup) is a competition for Premier League and Football League teams only. The furthest Rovers have progressed is to the Quarter-Finals and have done this twice. Rovers were the first team ever to win a League Cup match, due to their game against Fulham in 1960 kicking off early, at 7:15pm. They also have the rather dubious honour of being the only team to have been knocked out of the competition before the first round, after losing the only ever preliminary round match to Boston United in 2002.

However, unlike the Football Whiland Cup where any number of teams may enter, only 92 clubs can enter: the 20 clubs of the Whiland First Division, and the 72 clubs of the three lower professional divisions who organise the competition. Also, unlike the Football Whiland Cup, the semi-finals are played over two legs. The League Cup usually has lower attendances than the Football Whiland Cup and it is fairly common for larger clubs to field a reserve or youth team unless they make it into the later stages.
