abstract	Deric was an honourable Centaur. He worked on the farm owned by Penelope's father in Nespa. He was involved in a plot concocted by Nemis to abduct Penelope and kill Hercules. Eventually, he realized the error of his ways and he left with his lover, Lyla, to go to Athens where he hoped people would be more open-minded about their relationship (HTLJ "As Darkness Falls"). Unfortunately, Deric and Lyla found that the Athens area was no more tolerant of their relationship. They moved there with their three year-old son, Kefor. Deric was ostracized because he could do the work of three men and the locals felt he was taking their jobs. The situation came to a violent end when the leader of the Cretans killed Lyla and burned down their home. Luckily, Deric and Kefor escaped but Deric was blinded by rage and could think only of vengeance until Hercules made him see that revenge would not help. Deric eventually accepted the apology of Democles, a former Cretan. He and Kefor stayed in the area to re-build their home and Zeus brought Lyla back to life so the family could be reunited (HTLJ "Outcast"). Sometime later, Deric was a guest at the wedding of Jason and Alcmene in Corinth. Lyla and Kefor did not attend as they were visiting with Deric's cousin, Phantes. At the wedding, Deric recognized Sera as being a spy for Hera. He had first seen her at the Slaughter of Biblos. He warned Hercules but it was too late to stop an attack by Perfidia. Deric fought against the mercenaries who were hired to disrupt the wedding (HTLJ "The Wedding of Alcmene"). Although Deric had a strong sense of honor, he was not always polite. In one instance where he was invited to an outdoor party, two women sitting at a nearby table were critical of the host for inviting centaurs. Deric responded by taking a large piece of chicken off the table and chewing it hungrily in front of them, then turned around and farted loudly in their faces (HTLJ "As Darkness Falls").
