Before joining the board of the Wikimedia Foundation, she had worked at the Aston Dyslexia and Developmental Assessment Centre and the National Foundation for Educational Research, based in Berkshire. On November 23, 2008, she married MediaWiki developer Tim Starling, and now lives in Sydney.
